In Atlanta, being a dog mom is more than just a title; it’s a lifestyle rooted in love, community, and the belief that “it takes a village to raise a dog.” This National Dog Mom Day, celebrated on the second Saturday of May, we’re celebrating the remarkable women who prioritize pet parenting amid their busy lives. We also want to highlight the incredible community built by Atlanta Dog Mom, a social club and non-profit redefining what it means to care for our pets and each other in Atlanta.

Atlanta Dog Mom operates on the idea that dog moms deserve a supportive, inclusive space to connect, learn, and grow together. The club celebrates diversity, ensuring everyone can be authentic while celebrating their love for dogs. Through regular meetups, events, and service projects, members find not just playmates for their pups but true friends and allies for themselves.

Membership is intentionally accessible, starting at just $5 a month, so that every dog mom can join the village. These dues support both fun club activities and a non-profit mission: making affordable pet care possible for pet-loving families in need throughout Metro Atlanta. By joining, you’re not just enriching your life, you’re giving back to the broader pet community. And, you’re helping keep more pets in loving homes.

Atlanta Dog Mom provides access to support groups, exclusive events, discounts, and direct engagement with top local pet professionals. The club’s community service efforts, funded by memberships and donations, uplift families facing hardship, ensuring no dog is left behind due to financial barriers. In 2024, their non-profit helped over 30 families and 43 pets in their time of need. From free puppy vaccines to pet pantries, Atlanta Dog Mom’s non-profit work is really making a difference.

While I am not a member of Atlanta Dog Moms, I love the idea of a group that comes together to navigate the responsibility of pet parenting together. I remember being a first and second-time pet parent and having so many questions. Especially in today’s veterinary shortage and with prices rising on all consumer products, it’s easy to see how a $5 membership that gives you access to a group of people that is equally as passionate about their pets as you are makes perfect sense.

I also think that the world is so heavily online these days that having local groups like these is a great way to keep people active and connected. We aren’t created to live in isolation like so many of us do. We are created to live in community, and to learn from each other.  Plus, their events, from wine hours to Paint Your Pet events, these moms know how to have fun.

While I don’t have dogs that are keen on playdates, I also like the idea that Atlanta Dog Moms creates a no-pressure opportunity for dogs (and their people) to socialize. Socialization from a young age is crucial for a dog’s emotional and behavioral development. By joining Atlanta Dog Moms while your dog is still young, you can enhance their growth and socialization, while also enjoying the company of others. You never know, you and/or your dog may make lifelong best friends at one of these events or meet-ups.

If your dog is already older but still enjoys meeting new friends, this may be just the thing the doctor ordered, keeping him or her active and social in their golden years.
